Senior Battery Scientist

About the Role

SimLionics is seeking a Senior Battery Scientist to lead advanced battery modeling, diagnostics, and performance optimization initiatives. This role sits at the intersection of electrochemistry, physics-based modeling, and intelligent software systems, driving innovation in predictive battery intelligence across EV and energy storage applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate physics-based electrochemical and thermal battery models
  • Lead degradation, ageing, and failure mode analysis studies
  • Design and interpret advanced battery experiments (cell to pack level)
  • Collaborate with AI/ML and software teams to translate scientific models into deployable algorithms
  • Support digital twin development and model calibration using real-world data
  • Guide SOC, SOH, SOP, and safety-related algorithm development
  • Mentor junior scientists and contribute to technical publications and IP development

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or MS in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in battery R&D or advanced battery systems
  • Strong understanding of lithium-ion cell chemistry, degradation mechanisms, and thermal behavior
  • Experience with modeling tools (MATLAB, Python, COMSOL, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS) and state estimation techniques

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with digital twin architectures or physics-informed AI models
  • Exposure to EV or large-scale BESS applications
  • Track record of patents or peer-reviewed publications
